Open morning for parents set to launch at Maple Hayes Dyslexia School

Parents of children with Dyslexia are being invited to find out more about a specialist school in the region.

Maple Hayes Dyslexia School in Lichfield, Staffordshire is set to open its doors for parents of children of Key Stage 2 age for their latest open morning on Saturday 16 October.

Led by headteacher Dr Daryl Brown and senior staff, parents will be given a chance to explore the school, see classes in action and ask crucial questions relating to their child’s future.

Parents will be able to find out more about Maple Hayes’ unique teaching methods and approach to transforming the educational outcomes of its dyslexic pupils, and be given a guided tour around the site. They will also be able to find out more about the work and ethos behind the school which has helped hundreds of children since its inception in 1982.

Dr Brown said: “We know parents of children with dyslexia may feel very confused and worried about the options available to them as they want to give the very best start for their child. We want to be able to help guide them in this process, and make the transition from mainstream education as smooth as possible.”

Rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, Maple Hayes is a specialist school for children aged 7 to 17 with Specific Learning Difficulties/ Dyslexia and is approved under section 41 of the 2014 Children & Families Act as an independent special school regulated by the Education Funding Agency to receive funding by Local Authorities under their ‘local offer’ for provision and for transport to the school.

Almost all pupils have statements or EHC plans and are placed by 16 Midlands Local Authorities but a few are placed privately by their parents. Most pupils start in Years 5, 6 or 7.
